Welcome!!

This Web site provides a ” how to” method of jazz improvisation for the Music Minor: Jazz Studies students at the University of Delaware.  This “how-to” method will be illustrated from a guitar point of view.  The problem that this project would solve, would be to illuminate a procedural method of improvising through chord changes.

People who would be involved in my project would possibly include the following:

  • Tony Ventura
  • University of Delaware jazz guitar students
  • University of Delaware faculty members
  • Well-known “local” guitarists
  • Well-known “world-wide” guitarists

When my project concludes, it would lead to the quantification of the improvisational concepts and the development of a Web site for world-wide visibility.  Lastly, I am interested in this project because of my desire to share techniques that would help guitarists realize their goals of improving their ability to improvise through chord changes.

Importance of Topic

To me – The idea of a formal documented method of improvising through chord changes has been brewing in my mind for roughly 30 years.  In 1990, I developed a simple method of teaching my guitar students basic fundamentals that would allow them to see examples of improvising through chord changes.  After playing these examples, the students were instructed on how they could actually compose original solos, thus building upon newly learned concepts. Therefore, the completion of this effort would be a fulfillment of a dream I have had for many years.

Employer – I have been an adjunct jazz guitar instructor at the University of Delaware since 1990. The course that I teach is called Music Minor: Jazz Studies – http://udcatalog.udel.edu/arts/default.htm.

This Web site would be viewed as a valuable resource for previous, current, and future guitar students.

Society – Guitarists from a world-wide audience visibility would be able to visit the Web site and take advantage of this improvisational method.

Whom does the project benefit? – The project will benefits all guitarists who have a desire to learn how, or to improve their skills, in improvising through chord changes.

Audience – Organization, Community, Industry – The audience would be reflective of guitarists, and other instrumentalists of all skill levels.  The “organization” component is not relevant, however, the industry of importance would be the musical industry.

P90X-Day 6 of 90 (Phase 1-Week 1): Kenpo X

by Tony on February 6, 2010

I love this workout (3rd time through P90X). However, after doing INSANITY and RevAbs before this 3rd time through P90X, I find myself borrowing elements of INSANITY and RevAbs to get a more thorough and intense workout. Trying to take the best elements of the Beachbody programs that I have completed.
