This video represents an impromptu improvisational performance based on the underlying chord structure of an F blues chordal structure. The chord changes shown below form the structure of a basic F blues chord progression. It should be noted that this basic structure is only a starting point for improvisors. The artistry emanates from a solo that implies variations of the underlying chordal structure. This variation is somewhat analogous to movement, color, shadow, etc., that is inherent in all art forms. The ability of the soloist to "tell a story", by utilizing a skillful balance of emotion, "playing by ear", technical skill, musical knowledge, etc., while intuitively collaborating with the other musicians, is truly something that most musicians strive for. |
